Pentatonic Minor Scale Position I

The first position starts on the low E-string with the first finger. The first tone is the ground tone of the scale. The examples and exercises are in the key of A minor, so we start on the A, which is the fifth fret on the low E string.

Exercise 4 - Blue Notes

Blue notes are extra tones that can be added to the scale. They give the scale a bluesy sound. Note that these tones are "extra", they do not really belong to the scale. They are optionoal, the original scale is still a pentatonic (=5) scale.

Exercise 5 - Bending

In theory you can bend every tone in a scale. In practice this will not always result in a nice sound. In this exercise you'll learn safe bending positions: you can bend these tones anytime you want.
